Family Holiday in Tenerife

Christmas in Tenerife wasn’t something I ever imagined myself doing. Sun, sand and swimming pools just didn’t feel very Christmassy to me at first—but sometimes the best holidays are the ones that surprise you the most. After some convincing from my partner and the kids, we swapped jumpers and roast dinners for sunshine and sea views, and honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever look back.

From a stress-free package holiday and a quieter base in Los Gigantes to unforgettable family days out and a Christmas Day spent at a water park, this trip completely changed how I see festive travel. If you’ve ever wondered whether a family holiday in Tenerife could really work at Christmas, let me tell you exactly why it worked so well for us.

Flights & Accommodation

We booked a 2-bedroom, self-catering apartment with a balcony and sea views for 14 nights in Los Gigantes, Tenerife at Vigilia Park Apartments through Jet2. We'd booked through Jet2 before and I love a package holiday - it's just less stressful! So my flights (excluding Guernsey-UK flights - that’s another story!), luggage, transfer and hotel for the 5 of us (2 adults + 3 teenage boys) cost just under £4,000! Jet2holidays make booking a getaway refreshingly simple, combining flights, hotels and transfers into one great-value package holiday with added peace of mind thanks to full ATOL protection. One of the biggest perks for families is the range of free child places, helping you keep costs down while still enjoying top-quality accommodation in popular destinations. Jet2holidays also regularly roll out special offers and deals, including low deposits, money-off discounts and flexible payment options.

It was a stress-free, great-value holiday from start to finish 🤩

Los Gigantes

We had a 2-bedroom, self-catering apartment with a balcony with sea views! Los Gigantes is a quieter area so if you don’t like crowds, then this is the area for you.

There were shops on our doorstep as well as a bus stop and taxi rank right outside so getting around wasn’t a problem.  The B Yard was just across the road with a large screen showing sports, bars, pool tables, and loads of food outlets. They also had live music most nights so was a great place to unwind after a busy day out.

For a €5 taxi ride or a 30 minute walk, you could go down to the marina with amazing views of The Giants. Here, you can go dolphin and whale watching, get a coffee or lunch, pop into some of the shops or go to the beach which is at the base of The Giants.

We decided to go Scuba Diving which cost €80 each and is a must! We have never done it before and they talk you though everything. We were diving for 40 minutes at 5.8 metres. We paid €30 extra and the instructor took a go pro and videoed the whole thing which they then put on an SD card for us to take home.

Siam Park

What do you do on Christmas Day in Tenerife? Siam Park of course! Voted best water park in the world for the 10th consecutive year with 30+ waterslides and attractions from thrill rides to the world’s longest lazy river!

Booking Your Tickets

Everyone is always looking for a deal, but it's rare to find discounted tickets for Siam, so we booked online directly with them - €44 per adult, €32 per child (age 2-11), under 2's go Free. So children aged 12 years up pay the full adult price.

We have however since discovered Attractiontix who run exclusive offers and deals with Siam Park. They are currently offering an Adult ticket (ages 12 years+)at €38 with a FREE Burger! Well worth a look at Attractiontix to check the latest offers and deals - here's the link to Attractiontix.

Plan Your Day!

Siam Park is a fantastic day out! It’s quite a bit of walking around and it gets BUSY! So we highly recommend you look at the site map online and plan your day.  More info here - Plan your visit to Siam Park.

Don’t go to the first ride you see, find your sun lounger as these go very fast and plan your day from there. The use of sun loungers, tubes, life jackets and umbrellas is included in the entrance price. They have lockers €7 for a standard one and €10 for a larger one. There is also Free wireless internet connection throughout the whole park.

There are plenty restaurants onsite too! We found the Thai Bar good value with a good range of food – pizza, burgers, hotdogs, roast chicken, curry etc. You can get more info of all the restaurants at Siam Park here - Where to Eat at Siam Park.

My partner has mobility issues and if you go to the information desk, you can hire a mobility scooter for the day for €45 - €15 of this is the deposit which you get back.

Transport to Siam Park

FREE Siam Park Buses for Siam Park ticket holders operate between Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas, Costa Adeje, and Siam Park. You'll need to check schedules in the resort for pick-up times. The bus to Siam Park only came on certain days in our region, and it wasn't the free service, the fare was €11 each, so a taxi worked out cheaper for us.

Aqualand

An alternative to Siam Park was Aqualand! On their website they offer joint tickets with Jungle Park for EUR49 – great, that’s 2 days out!

Again, we got a taxi as that was just easier for us.  Aqualand is great if you have younger kids and don’t like crowds. The lockers here were EUR6 and you pay via card.

There were no queues, so the kids were entertained all day. Food onsite is expensive and not the best but you aren’t allowed to take food in with you so I suggest a big breakfast before you go.

At 3.30pm they do a dolphin show which is well worth it! If you enjoy the day and want to go back, before you leave book return tickets at the desk for just EUR12 each. You have to do this on the day although we didn’t realise this and they still gave us the discounted rate on our second trip.

Jungle Park

Jungle Park is a bit further from us, but also well worth it! They have a bird of prey show, sea lion show, loads of animals and a bobsleigh ride. Food onsite was tasty although again, in the parks you will pay more. You can have your photo taken with different birds but the picture will cost you EUR10 and they don’t do discounts for bundles so we didn’t bother! Highly recommend going in with the Lemurs, they are very curious!

Costa Adeje

Although we were in a quieter area, we took a taxi to Costa Adeje for the day. Here, it is all catered towards tourists with shops and restaurants at every turn. I braved a swim in the sea and got myself a malibu slushie from the Chillbox (if you know you know!) We saw a McDonalds and KFC but resisted having any.  Perfect if you fancy a bit of hussle and bussle.

Christmas in the Sun? 🎄

I wasn’t sure about spending Christmas on holiday at first! It just didn’t seem right, but my partner and the kids wanted to try it out and now, having done it, I would do it a thousand times over!

To top it all off, I didn’t need to put decorations up at home, work, sort the food shop or Christmas dinner out! It was the most stress-free Christmas I have ever had! All I had to worry about was my tan!

Oh, and the best thing I did was do all the washing before I got home! There was an onsite launderette which I took full advantage of! They have 18kg drums and only cost a couple of Euros!

Have fun in the sun! ☀️
