Travelling to the UK and need a hotel room? Need a UK stopover as you're travelling through? You can often expect to pay hundreds of pounds for a hotel in the UK, especially if you're booking last minute! But with some savvy forward planning, you'll be surprised at just how much you can save on a hotel room.
Here's our top savvy tips on finding a UK hotel room that won't bust your budget...
Book Direct!
There are many hotel comparison websites and apps available, but quite often the very best prices can be found when booking direct with the hotel. This is true of the budget hotel chains such as Premier Inn and Travelodge.
You won't find a Premier Inn or a Travelodge listed on hotel comparison websites. This is because these budget hotel chains would rather offer the savings direct to their customers instead of paying the websites a fee or a commission.
Both hotel chains offer everything that you need for your stay. They offer a generous king-size bed in all rooms, plus pull out beds or bed settees in the family rooms mean all the family will have a great night’s sleep! All rooms offer en-suite facilities.
The Premier Inn offer 800+ hotels across the UK and Travelodge offer 580+, so with1380+ hotels located throughout the UK, you're sure to find the one for you!
Book early
The best value rooms are snapped up quickly so book early to secure your choice of hotel and dates for the best price! Hotel rooms at Premier Inn and Travelodge can be booked up to 355 days in advance, so the earlier you book, the more likely you’ll get a room for £39 or less.

Stay midweek
Rooms for £39 tend to be available Sunday-Thursday. It is possible to find rooms for £39 at a Travelodge on Friday and Saturday nights, but they’re very popular and tend to get booked quickly, so remember to book early. That said, the Premier Inn often advertise their lowest rates for rooms on Friday and Sunday nights. It seems to be Saturday nights that offer the fewest savings.
Book the Saver Rate!
If you’re planning a night or two away in the UK and don’t want to spend a fortune, look out for the Saver Rate. This is the rate you need to pay for in advance, but if know you'll definitely be travelling on your chosen dates, then you may as well book the cheaper rate and grab yourself a bargain. The Saver Rate offers great value at £39 or less. Saver Rate rooms are non-refundable and non-transferable, but can usually be amended up to a certain number of days before you arrive, or for a small amendment fee. Always check the full terms and conditions before booking the Saver Rate.
Kids Stay Free!
Both the Premier Inn and the Travelodge offer a Kids Stay Free deal, where you can book a family room for the same price as a double. It's a great way to save a few quid on your family holiday, short break, or stopover. Up to two kids can stay for free with a full paying adult (subject to availability). A child is defined as being under the age of 16.
Kids Eat Free!
Yes, you heard that right! The kids can access an unlimited all-you-can-eat breakfast for FREE at both the Premier Inn and the Travelodge. Up to two kids can stay and eat breakfast for free with a full paying adult (subject to availability). A child is defined as being under the age of 16.
