If you've ever stood in front of the fridge at 5pm wondering what's for dinner, you're definitely not alone! Meal planning might sound a bit organised (or even a little boring), but it's one of the easiest ways to save money, reduce food waste and take the stress out of family mealtimes.
The good news? You don't need to plan every meal down to the last pea. Even a simple plan can mahow-to-meal-plan-like-a-pro-without-spending-hours-in-the-kitchenke a huge difference to both your budget and your sanity.

Why Meal Planning Works

Simple Steps to Meal Plan Like a Pro...
1. Check What You Already Have
Before writing your shopping list, take a quick look through your fridge, freezer and cupboards. You might discover half a bag of pasta, a forgotten tin of beans or some vegetables that need using up.
Building meals around ingredients you already have is one of the easiest ways to save money.
2. Plan Your Week
Think about what's happening over the next seven days.
Are the kids at clubs?
Do you have late nights at work?
Is there a day when you'll need something quick and easy?
Will you have extra time to cook at the weekend?
Choose meals that fit around your schedule rather than setting yourself up for complicated recipes on your busiest days.
💡 TIP! Write down your meal plan and stick it on the fridge or use a chalkboard and leave it on display in the kitchen. When the kids ask 'Whats for Tea....?' point at the list! 👍

3. Write a Shopping List (And Stick to It!)
Once you've decided on your meals, write down exactly what you need to buy.
Shopping with a list helps you avoid those tempting "just in case" purchases that can quickly add up. Your future self (and your bank balance) will thank you! Download our FREE Meal Planning Templates and Shopping List!
4. Make Leftovers Work Harder
Leftovers are your secret weapon. A roast chicken can become sandwiches, wraps or a curry the next day. Extra vegetables can be added to soups, pasta sauces or omelettes.
Don't think of leftovers as repeats - think of them as meal shortcuts.

5. Keep It Fun with Theme Nights
Adding themed nights can make meal planning feel less restrictive and gives everyone something to look forward to.
Some ideas include:
🌮 Taco Tuesday
🍝 Pasta Friday
🍕 Fakeaway Saturday
🥔 Jacket Potato Night
🍛 Curry Night
🍔 Burger Night
🥣 Soup and Sandwich Sunday
🍖 Scraps Night
❄️ Freezer Friday
🍕 Pizza Saturday
🐓 Chicken Tuesday
🥩 Steak Saturday

You can rotate favourites and introduce new meals without having to reinvent the wheel every week.
